Why do profoundly deaf people wear hearing aids?

My hubby went deaf and had a cochlear implant. It worked for 12 days and then it failed. Hearing cannot be restored once the cochlea has been removed and it cannot be put back in. He is 100% deaf in that ear and 99.98% deaf in the other. The cochlear implant is implanted inside the middle ear so that is not what you saw. I believe you saw the conductor which is worn on the outside of the ear. If person's hearing is deemed good enough to be helped with the aid of a hearing aid they can be prescribed but often background noise interferes because it amplifies that as we as others voices. Its horrible.
