Why are so many new folk not declaring their age ?

I notice a lot of new users aren't declaring their age group.
What's that about ??
[c=#BF0080]I don't know but it's annoying me.. I don't know if it's a 14 year old or a 60 yr old. Then there's the ones who hide their age and sex. I don't interact with those kinds of people.. unless I knew them before they hid it.[/c]

I don't want to interact with those folks privately because I don't know if they are underage or not.
Picklebobble · 56-60, M
It's a form of disguise or worse, deceit !
Deliberately misinforming anyone who might have interaction with you.
Same as those who post their age as 90-99..... Really ?
LucyFuhr · 56-60, F
@Archiesgirl...Women "of a certain age" is usually a reference to a more "mature" woman. In this case, I'd say anyone over the age of 40.

I'll be 49 in a few months. Considering what we (especially Gen Xers) have gone through to get here and still be able to hold our heads up, I personally, am not for whiting it out.

You're going to LOVE your 40s.
Best. Decade. Ever. (it was for me, any way LOL)

With the minors I understood it and it didn't bother me in the least.

Within the last week though, I've seen a number of existing members blank out their age. The majority being females "of a certain age"

It's not just the new users.
The people who were choosing 100+ as their age category are now leaving it blank. I removed mine, frankly, because I got tired of it being the first thing someone who disagrees with me about some other topic harps on. But most who know me know I'm one of the older posters. I understand some of the younger women were hiding their ages and genders so older "pervs" would leave them alone.

Pink, I completely agree.

I get why some people fiddle with gender on here but age is key. Either kick the kids out (not a good option, just a suggestion) or stop hiding ages.

the best part about SW is to share least personal info and talk more about issues, ideas and experiences ....else its just another FB
Picklebobble · 56-60, M
Sorry. Unconvinced by anything I've read so far !
Is there an option in which you can exclude/include whom you DON'T want to receive answers from ?
And if so. When they post, is there a sign or symbol to let all users know !
Otherwise, why is their stuff being posted to the main page ?
It's getting silly the number of times I've responded to questions only to have "This question has been withdrawn" or something similar come up!!

@Kindheartedguy...There are just as many (if not more) adults hiding their age and gender than kids.

Aside from having people send in a copy of their birth certificate and SSN along with a notarized pic when joining a site and NOT letting them make changes after they're a member, there is no real solution.
Picklebobble · 56-60, M
No no. This non declaration of age is a new trend.
I've seen some women say they think it reduces the trash that they get from the pervs. Which, if true, makes sense.
But to deliberately withhold a piece of information is almost as bad as creating a false account!
Or, at the very least. Tilts the Q&A in a non objective direction.

Lucy: Like BB said we are getting sick of people using our age against us in arguments that have nothing to do about age and if anyone wants to know my age they can ask and I will tell them, 48. I did it just to see if I would be treated any different and then forgot I did it. Most people know me already and that I am not a cougar nor am I a youngbee.
GreenieHel · 36-40, F
Yeah, I don't like it. I draw a hard line when it comes to minors and I block them as I come across them. I'm certainly cautious when it comes to commenting on post's where the age is hidden.

@justmerae1...I was making an observation as to what I've been seeing on SW.
A factual observation.
If you found anything offensive in that, it wasn't intentional.

Lucy! I believe it, I'm loving it so far or I should say myself. Some of the people around me need to step up there game but I'm feeling great.
LucyFuhr · 56-60, F
@Archiesgirl...They gotta step up their game for real!

Good for you!!! I don't hear that enough from women in my demographic.
So far the only people who have had issue with mine have been middle aged men treating SW like a dating site.
Picklebobble · 56-60, M
LucyFuhr: Thank you !
Yes! I wondered why that particular age group, as well !
SW-User
LucyFuhr, what age is certain? I'm 40, is it time to white it out? Shoot I love being 40.
Picklebobble · 56-60, M
Fungirlmmm:
Agree entirely. Not sure I will either!

I wish similarworlds would add a way to block them..

I concur with you, lucy

Lucy: Not offend you have a right to your opinion. I was explaining the whys for some of us.
I forgot I even did it.
UntamedTravelers · 31-35, C
let each decide what they want to share....not showing is surely a better option vs posting a wrong number
SW-User
I took mine off and forgot I did it, but I am 48 so now you know.
Abbenthewarwolf · 18-21, M
How do you do that?
