I Am American (southern)

I went to see my aunt up on the mountain yesterday. You know people talk how bad it is in the cities. Gangs, crime, unemployment, hunger for the poor. Those who think the city poor or the worst off in America come take a drive. Take a drive through isolated Appalachia. Cause yes there are poor in the cities but there is more in rural America. The poor here also don't have resources city do. They don't have income based housing, food banks, healthcare clinics and such. And jobs are scarce.

You are absolutely right. You don't have to go far to see it. I lived in WV for 12 years and so the desparation of this people. WV, VA., and KY, especially.
The only source of life for so few was coal mining. They'd break the backs, wrist their health and get paid a meger wage and for what? Just to have the coal company take it all back at the company store.
Many had little food, luttkecto no heat and forget about electricity!
THESE ARE the poorest of the poor especially since foreign coal is cheaper to produce.
