Is there any real way to discipline a cat?

My kitten has been biting a lot and I was wondering if you can actually discipline a cat. I read that spraying them with water is cruel and betrays trust. I think she might be teething because she's never bitten anyone (or anything) before. With my dog, time outs work, but they don't seem to be working with Chloé.

How do you discipline your cat?

What works best?

Do you have any recommendations for items to buy for teething?

[c=#BF0080] Ah girl I know! I rescued a liter of four baby kittens and am bottle feeding them and the whole shenanigans so I understand! I swear they are trying to kill me! They are the itty bitty shitty kitty committee! Lol. They are doing the biting teething thing too. We spray them with water, it does not "betray trust" they absolutely adores us and won't leave us alone. There are so few ways to discipline them that I'm willing to try anything. Or I either just take my hands away or usually just put them down on to the floor if they won't quit with the biting or give them a toy or something to chew on. If it's things they are chewing on that's the problem and not you, there is like pet anti-chew stuff we have for my dog that you spray on things that works. You can find it online or at a pet store. Oh plus a soft flick on the nose/mouth accompanied by a "no bites!" Doesn't hurt either! Hope that helps! Best of luck! 😸[/c]

Thanks! I'll search for the spray now. I read that mint works as well, but my cat likes mint (we have to hide toothpaste because she'll eat it.) 😂

[c=#BF0080] Haha - too funny! Yeah, just like people - there truly is no accounting for taste in animals. I alwaysss seem to get the weird pets. Whenever someone says they are or are not a certain way, mine will be the opposite and totes strange and bizarre. 😆 So I just don't trust most "one size fits all" things. Everything is worth a shot tho! I think my anti-chew stuff is like bitter cherry or something, but I'm not sure. [/c]

some cats love to bite, I had a Siamese male cat that loved to bite my hands, he'd leave indentations but didn't break the skin...told him for a year and he'd just lay his ears back and bite me anyway. One day I had in my lap while going to the vet's office for his rabies shot and once again he bit my hand...I looked at him and slowly bit his leg, he didn't yowl or anything and then I showed him my teeth and told him I could bite too...he didn't bite hard after that, maybe a teasing little nip but not enough to leave dents on my hand. I was really afraid he would bite an elderly relative who's skin had a tendency to tear easily.

I've bitten her back, a light nip on the ear and she stopped but she started again. That's why I think she's teething. I don't want to encourage that behavior, because I don't want her to bite my rambunctious cousin who I babysit frequently.

Wait until the teething passes. Should be a month or so.

Then, when the cat is no longer teething, just clap your hands sharply and say NO clearly firmly and loud.....or put two or three small rocks or marbles in a closed metal can and shake it and say a clear loud NO; they hate sudden loud noises.

play with her more.. shes probably teething...

don't try to discipline her because she won't understand..
if it's a real problem i would blow a short sharp puff of air in her face but nothing more..

I yell at this one and it listens a little.

slightly smack him on his nose and tell him no t worked after awhile with my cats

I'm afraid to do that, but she seems to respond to me saying no.

some birds are not meant to be caged... or in this case, cats
