@dumbblonde In order to understand all these you need to first understand the God of god.....Lord Shiva.there's a lot about him...but I'll try to make Jr short for you.The word Mahadev literally means the biggest god or the superlative one who is second to none. The other meaning is also the leader of all gods. Thus, the expression visualizes Shiva as the highest god in the hierarchy with the other gods occurring in the various strata of the pyramid.

Shiva worshipped as Natraj best brings out this Mahadev principle. Lord Natraj is the dancing form of Lord Shiva. He is shown to be engaged in a cosmic dance. He has in him all the five elements namely sky (symbolized by the double drum or the percussion instrument he holds in his hand), air (symbolized by the deer he holds in his hands), fire (held in one of the hands), water (the holy Ganges flowing from his matted hair), and earth (the holy ash smeared all over his body).

Cosmic dance is the final dance that happens at the end of dissolution of the entire universe. It is said that the whole universe came forth from the double drum sounded by Lord Shiva. it is from Shiva that all the other gods came forth.
Lord Shiva is alone without any second one during that time and found engaged in cosmic dance smearing the holy ash all over his body.
Thus in the sense of Mahadev, Lord Shiva is the primordial entity that existed before any second thing came forth and also the final entity that shall remain after all the created worlds are dissolved.
Now,we have mainly three gods,Brahma for creation,Vishnu for protection and Shiva for destruction.other God's are incarnations or parts of these God's....so whomeverpeople worship....they worship the same.you may wonder if then,why these three supreme God's don't have any superiority complex,that is because Brahma always meditates on Shiva,Shiva meditates Vishnu and Vishnu meditates Brahma.so they're equal and would be there to each other.a good devotee don't argue with other God's devotee for his God to be considered as number one,infact there's no number 1 concept at all,for a devotee his god is the best for him.

Hope this cleared your doubt.sorry it's a bit long.you can understand more about this by searching up Lord Shiva on Wikipedia.it'll clear all your remaining doubts.😊

@dumbblonde....yeah devotees can think in anyway..but there's a God of God.and he's my favourite.that doesn't mean that other God's are subordinate to him....but it's just a name given.they all have equal powers.

Without a belief in the transcendent one's grasp of the world and its works falls into chaos.
