"and had to have a beginning."

Well, only if tensed facts are actually real and not just have the appearance of existing. A tenseless universe can be finite AND never have a "beginning".

BTW, I am a theist, I just am a theist that cares about accurate details.
I’m glad to hear that, because God was real meticulous about what was put in His Word, being He’s God, and for those who believe. God being perfect and cannot lie, I choose to believe Him, over man. @TheMorningsStar

What worried me is when god says he is the beginning and the end. What is this end that is spoken of? I thought there was to be no end and our existences amongst God would be unending. I guess I have a hard time understanding the context behind this.
Not to worry. He IS. In the Greek alphabet, in which the New Testament was written, alpha is the first letter and omega is the last. In the Book of Revelation, God says, “I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last,” meaning that God remains from the beginning to the end of time.
