I have used meditation to slow down my thoughts and relax tense muscles at times when I have been under extreme stress. Works great to de-stress and clear your mind of negative thinking. I have also heard it can help with lowering blood pressure and decreases things like anxiety and panic attacks in people that suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder or PTSD.

It's a relaxation technique only. It doesn't bring a person closer to truth or anything.
