The original seems dated in the sound, not the song, but it was recorded in 1946 or 47 by the lady who wrote it, using 1940s recording technology, so it would sound 1940ish. Many others have done covers of it. Even Donna Sommer did a disco/dance cover it and Marlena Dietrich did, probably, one of the most noted cover , but one of the best covers I've heard, so far is Connie Francis' version. But having said that, Belinda Carlisle has recorded a cover in both French and English with a rock arrangement. She channeled Dietrich a bit and her version sounds a bit like Marlena's but with a faster tempo. If you haven't heard it, look it up on YouTube.
