did his parents give you any advise on how to handle situations like that?

@AfricanQueen16: how long will they be gone? When can you expect them back?

@AfricanQueen16: oh, so this isn't just a couple of hours. Okay this is a totally different situation. You're responsible for his meals and.......do you have to supervise his bedtime too?

Did the parents leave you any emergency contact numbers in case there's a problem? A letter of authorization for you to be allowed there, in case he does call the police and claim you're an intruder.

He's not a small boy. This isn't the first time they've left him, so they must know the drill.

What did they tell you about meals and bedtime? As I see it, right now, the hat is the least of your problems.

Ask him to take it off. Remind him of the house rules. If he won't take it off, don't push the issue. Don't try to take it from him. Leave it and explain when his parents or guardian get home.

Is this part of your work or a personal favor for someone? If it's not absolutely essential it's best to leave his care to someone who enjoys working with them. Otherwise you'll probably be driven insane in a short amount of time, barring a miracle where a genie grants you a self restraining bed for him to be strapped to.

Maybe you should get your panuka of the phone/computer and take care of your 1st responsibility.
