It does seem helpless, but the boys have their toys, they need to play with, why have bombs without detonation, they are itching for it. At the same time they are making a lot of money, from the soaring prices. So when they push the button, we are left behind, and they go running to their underground bunkers, fully stacked with everything they need to survive, until it's clear to pop-up out of the hole, like its groundhogs day. Start digging!

Unfortunately, this is how it has always been and will always be: conflict, war, hunger, sickness, poverty. And the dog-eat-dog world of the animal kingdom isn't any better either.
