There is probably a thrill or fetish for him I’m guessing. What types of stuff does he say? Is it more of a kink?
Emilygrace1 · 26-30, FNew
@Maddy08 both. Like for example, does he bring up the whole BBC thing? Sorry to be so blunt lol. Again no need to share if that’s too much.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Emilygrace1 lol yes 😅
Emilygrace1 · 26-30, FNew
@Maddy08 ohhhh girl 🤣🤣 you’re in trouble

Sashawow · 18-21, F

Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew

@Royricky09 I know they were being serious, or at least assumed.

Maybe he thinks it makes him look more high class, having a white girlfriend.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Midlifemale to be honest, it’s more so that he initially had frustrations with my dad and tried to joke around about it. I can say more if that helps give context.
Emilygrace1 · 26-30, FNew
@Midlifemale why does the dad disapprove?
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
@Emilygrace1 I don't know know. Ask her. But his white daughter is living with her black boyfriend. What do you think ?
GoFish ·
is he dating you just because you are white? he seems overly obsessed with race 😒
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@GoFish true. I think I know the motivation, but maybe it’s just my own personal confusion with the enjoyment of it. Thanks for your thoughts!
GoFish ·
@Maddy08 ok best wishes to you whatever ☺
Emilygrace1 · 26-30, FNew
@Maddy08 @GoFish it’s because it’s a fetish for him. It’s not that uncommon
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
I'm white and my ex is black. He would do the same. Any time we argued, he usually brought race into it in a negative way. I think racial inequalities have been ingrained in the black culture for so long (understandably), it's just a go-to in their minds any time something is going wrong. I'm not black, so I can't say the definite reason why some would bring race into an argument, but that's my speculation.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@LeGrotesque that sucks, I’m really sorry to hear that. If it’s okay to ask, how would he bring it up? Like the topic and manner of it. I’m wondering if it’s similar to my situation
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
@Maddy08 if he did something disrespectful toward me or hurt me in some way, I'd call him out on it, and instead of keeping the topic on the behavior, he'd inevitably bring race in. He'd try to say that I was wrong and that his behavior is just part of who he is as a black man. Or if he tried to steamroll me in what is supposed to be a joint decision, he'd say stuff like, "Yeah of course you want it all YOUR way- typical white btch", etc. We had some ugly fights but thankfully since we broke up, we get along well.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@LeGrotesque oh wow, yeah that is very ugly. I’m glad you’re in good terms, but I’m sorry you had to deal with that. Thanks again for sharing. I know exactly what you mean though. My boyfriend doesn’t say really messed up things like that, but he will kind of justify the behavior stuff at times and simultaneously also allude to the racial differences in a sort of flexing way. If you get why I’m saying.
How serious is the relationship? Is marriage a possibility?
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@LamontCranston yes it’s possible. We’ve been dating about a year and a half.
@Maddy08 What you describe may be an obstacle. (I have had a couple of interracial marriages in my family but the subject of "race" was never a factor or discussion point in either case.)
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@LamontCranston oh really? Thanks for being so open about it. I think it may be a more black/white thing with this exact situation to be honest, at least what I’ve heard
Ynotisay · M
My partner is a minority from another country and while neither of have brought up race between each other, because it's a non-issue, I do know she's sensitive about it around others. She'll say things sometimes about how someone acted in a racist way towards her that I don't see in any way. So I think there's sensitivity to it that might be more imagined than real at times. But I'm sure that's driven by cases of real racism. That can hit deep and color someone's thinking about "all."

I think it can become an issue though if someone is living in a world where "enemies" are always present. And some lean in to blaming those "enemies" for their own stuff. I'm not sure that's a strong character trait. Irrespective if it's around race, gender or any of the other things that people latch on to. It can be tricky. But it think it will need to be something you need get past.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Ynotisay thank you for sharing that, means a lot. Is your partner black as well or where is she from? I agree with what you said. And I think it’s also tricky with my case because he kind of likes to tease about why it’s a good thing. If that makes sense?

Interesting... But not healthy at all... This will keep growing more...
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Royricky09 I guess because of the connotation and me wondering if it’s unusual for some people to enjoy it or have a reason for it
@Maddy08 I don't think it's funny... That's my opinion
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Royricky09 I get that. Part of me doesn’t either
I’d start looking surprised every time he mentions it. Wait… you’re BLACK? Jesus, how long has this been going on?
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@InterdimensionalSideEye haha I probably should say that 😅 we’ve been dating for about a year and a half, but he’s been doing it for a while. It’s kind of at random times or about risqué topics.

@InterdimensionalSideEye haha that’s too funny 😂 I guess I meant like he almost says it as a playful “flex” sometimes. Like joking about the stereotypical stuff in a certain way if that makes any sense.
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
It will only get worse. Not a healthy conversation because it will lead to an argument if you don't agree with him.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Midlifemale we do live together
Midlifemale · 61-69, M
@Maddy08 oooooooh !
Hmmmmm. Are you truly in-love with him, or can a big decision be made and move back home ?
Butvwait for one of his race comments and just look at him and tell him..you had enough of that
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Midlifemale I do love him, but I have had my doubts for sure. And yes I could if I needed to. I think it’s the risqué comments that I don’t know how to feel you know? Like more blunt
RedBaron · M
Why don’t you ask him to discuss it? None of us are involved in your relationship.
ninalanyon · 70-79, T
@RedBaron It won't resolve it but using strangers as a sounding board can often help crystallize ones own ideas, especially if they offer contrasting viewpoints to ones own.
Emilygrace1 · 26-30, FNew
@ninalanyon I agree, but it sounds like she doesn’t fully understand the fetish element for him.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@ninalanyon thank you!
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
In my entire upbringing the word “black people” was never said at the dinner table.
In many black households “white people “ is discussed daily .
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@AthrillatheHunt that’s so true! Same for my family growing up. I wonder why that is.
Northwest · M
@AthrillatheHunt
In many black households “white people “ is discussed daily .

Your family socialized with the "many" black households in your old neighborhood? Over dinner? and chatted about the "white people?"
Rabbit420 · M
Sounds like your boyfriend is a racist, albeit consciously or subconsciously, but still a racist!!
Rabbit420 · M
@Maddy08 Most jokes have at least a few roots in reality. As I said, it could be subconsciously, but it's still there
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Rabbit420 I totally get that. I’m wondering if it’s normal for him to enjoy the taboo/kink element of it or if there’s a reason he’s fascinated with it I guess. If that make sense.
RedBaron · M
@Maddy08 Questions are always asked out of curiosity, so saying “just out of curiosity” is meaningless.
Theyitis · 36-40, M
No idea why he does that. Happy for you though.
Theyitis · 36-40, M
@Maddy08 You seem to have found an interracial relationship with no issues, you seem happy, and he seems cool.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@Theyitis thank you! Yes it’s mostly been going well. I think this was just something that made me curious and I was wondering if it was common you know
Theyitis · 36-40, M
@Maddy08 Well, sadly, from what I’ve seen, interracial relationships are still fairly uncommon, so I feel like I haven’t observed enough of them to know if that’s relatively common or not.
AlexC · 18-21, M
He‘s subconsciously self-conscious about being black. It makes him insecure. That’s why some people try to overcompensate. It’s to conceal their deep-seated insecurities.
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@AlexC thanks for your thoughts! I will do so for sure. The difficult thing is knowing what’s too overtly racial vs jokes
AlexC · 18-21, M
@Maddy08 It’s not necessarily about knowing definitively. It’s about how whatever he says makes you feel. :)
Maddy08 · 26-30, FNew
@AlexC haha I know, but the problem is that I’m never really like “offended” or bothered. It’s just interesting you know? It’s the risqué ways that come up
