I just found a book on an antiquarian bookseller's website of about that vintage (1898, I think) "The Count's Snuff-Box", a historical romance, and it looked interesting. Online there were offers of reprints done via optical character recognition (OCR) with caution that some characters and letters might be misread.
It turned out that the original in near-fine condition could be had for less than the cost of a reprint; so i now have it.

this is why i love antiques. all my furniture is antique. i figure if it has held up for fifty years, it will last another. and it will crate memories that my children will inherit. I think all objects absorb memories.
I love your post and I am also an Avid Reader. I have a large collection of first and second edition books but when I moved I had to get rid of them. I love my books.
