Some books cover several genres. I would like to recommend the “Fandorin novels” written by the Russian author Boris Akunin (it is a pseudonym). They are crime mysteries but also fantastic historic novels of the rare kind that manage to at the same time be exciting, fun, romantic and educating. You will even learn something about Japanese culture and thinking if you read them.

Noir fiction

Same here Psych....Fantasy,sci-fi, horror, anything Stephen King. Throw in a little nonfiction too...some history/biography.
