Is the National Guard still occupying Washington?

@JimboSaturn Approximately 3,000 National Guard troops are still deployed in D.C. Originally deployed in August 2025 under a declared “crime emergency” the mobilization has been extended by the Defense Department through Inauguration Day in January 2029.
The troops are deputized as “special police” by the U.S. Marshals Service to detain individuals until local officers arrive, though they do not have direct independent arrest powers.
AFAIK, the D.C. Attorney General, Brian Schwab, is leading a lawsuit arguing that the open-ended domestic deployment is unlawful—although I wasn’t able to determine the legal status of the case. I did confirm, however, that the Guard members are currently receiving their full pay and benefits.
