There's a real lesson here in that any population can fall prey to this kind of fabulist nonsense. It was popular internet humour to document the most insane things anyone had written about Kim Jong Un in North Korea. Like he how he invented a cure to shortness and is so good at golf he doesn't bother with it because he keeps getting holes in one.
We're in that exact same space where our friends, family, and communities just see the most insane, obviously untrue shit spouted about the dear leader and its so routine we barely notice it.
