I'm conservative but not a republican .
I do not follow a party
deadmoon · 31-35, F
@Justmeraeagain I don’t even understand the difference anymore. Isn’t the ideology exactly the same?
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@deadmoon Not to me

I think now would be a good time for all moderate Conservatives to do some self-reflection. I don't think moderate Conservatives are Fascists, but there's a clear link between Fascism and the spirit of Conservatism.

@GeretJan TBH, the stages of Empire are similar to the stages of Capitalism. The latter is just more accurate to describe life in the post-enlightenment West.

@Roundandroundwego Nah, not the lies but the indifference is really important about this all. Plenty of champagne socialists too. I pretend nothing, only know history and it's not on the left's favour in the US. Otherwise there wouldn't even be a second Trump administration. That's being rational. There's something rotten on your side of politics alright. Can't deny that. Otherwise there wouldn't be any Trump at all.

@Roundandroundwego Tell you what, I'm much more curteous than you and only that dates since the Middle Ages. Thank you for your contribution.

I suppose it all depends which "old certainties" you want to hold onto. "Kindness is a good thing." -- Hold on to that
"Racism is okay." -- That's one not to hold on to
@ChipmunkErnie Almost self-evident through my kind of upbringing. I wish that today's youngsters had a better spiritual and social upbringing. My mom couldn't read nor write but her social skills were unmatched.
In the U.S. (where I live) "conservative" values have long been a euphemism* for bigotry, racism, misogyny, which have all been longstanding traditions here.

*I do understand that the term is used differently in other parts of the world and has been largely co-opted here to promote exclusion.
@bijouxbroussard It's different in Europe. We have, honestly, all blood on our hands. For that I'm then a bit weary of this Christian Nationalism that's emerging. And next to that, I'm still going to call myself a Christian Democrat which has a legacy since the last pope called Leo.
