Oh, we tried. Trump wanted the US oil companies to return to Venezuela. They weren't interested. They took a look and determined it was too costly and wasn't worth the risk for a variety of reasons. Exxon top executive told trump directly in a White House meeting that "Venezuela is uninvestable". Exxon has already had its assets seized twice by the Venezuelan government. And the Venezuelan political situation is still unsettled.
He also cited the enormous investment that would be required to rebuild their dilapidated infrastructure and the cost of extracting their thick lower quality oil. Their money could be invested better elsewhere.
No one is unhappy that Maduro is gone.

The current population in Venezuela is just shy of 29 million. So, if Venezuela became a State all of those people would immediately became American citizens and some could run for President. Isn't that wonderful?🥳
