Good for them. I mean in alot of cases it is more a symbolic gesture but sometimes that is enough.

@JimboSaturn Well part of the problem is practical and just has to do with the structure of the government. You would need to come up with an alternative to the Governor General and an alternative everyone or at least a majority agrees on which never seems to end well.
And in terms of public opinion unlike some countries where the British imperial experience universally sucked in Canada different communities had very different experiences with the empire and have diametrically opposed feelings about it.

@Max13 Absolutely! People today are very quick to point out the colonialism of Britain, while neglecting that other peoples have also been guilty of the same thing - from the Huns to the Aztecs, the Mongols to the Indians, the Incas to the Rus, the Persians to the Arabs. All colonists.
