Unless it’s useful for your work, keeping up with politics is not really the same thing as staying informed now. As long as you know when important stuff is happening and know who would do what when there’s an election, the rest isn’t really so essential tbh

We like to talk as a species. In the modern age, we've moved from a half hour nightly news wrap up to a 24/365 news and information culture. We've gone from trusting experts and organizations to needing full transparency instantaneously on every tiny detail, whether it's owed to us or not.

And in the US, we're doing it wrong. With constant time to fill over the course of a day, we focus only on our own country. That's a lot of talking time devoted to two or three major issues. So we gossip, we speculate, we jump into the waters of conjecture and blame and fortune-telling. And it all means nothing.

Do yourself a favor and check the news once a day, maybe twice. If it's a headline that directly affects your daily life, click on it. Important patterns and events will make it through. The rest is just fluff.

I stay out of politics on here now because everyone has their own beliefs and wants to shut themselves away in their own echo chamber. Nothing, but nothing, will change people's minds about politics on here.

My thoughts are that following and even discussing politics doesnt have to be all negativity.

I'm sorry things have changed for your times, but when I was coming up people didn't even ask who you voted for..
People from different political backgrounds remain friends, and and overall people were more respectful of opposing views.
I don't mind discussing politics or anything else for that matter. But without respectful disagreement, everything sounds like a bunch of hot air.

I'm not into politics either. I guess I just grew up that way and I usually feel a little down if someone brings up political topics.

It effects your life, so you should stay informed. Reality is not always positive.

The essential truth is nobody is changing the world by posting this crap over and over.

But it doesn’t stop them doing it and boring the rest of us.

I'm with you. We all want to make the world better, but differ on how that is done.

Politics divide people, whereas something like music can unite people.

If trump did nothing else he proved to me atleast how many millions of creeps and crazies are in this country.
