In the US, there is no longer any definitive "middle" ... it vanished long before the year 2000 and McCain proved it did not exist in 2008.

There exists an odd 6% of the vote that votes on independent candidates ... which varies by 1%, but rarely to the benefit of other candidates.

Vote shifting is so small, that the House elections are predictable , except for about 20 and those 20 are due to 50-50 conditions present in those counties.

Currently, it is estimated 40 million conservatives either do not vote or vote for libertarian candidates .... and only 8 million liberals do not vote or vote for a green candidate
