I Write Poetry
ODE TO THE HANDICAPPED
(c) 2018 Edward York
I know you often see me,
When shopping in the store.
You were right behind me,
When I rolled through the door.
I could see you change direction,
As I rolled down the aisle.
I saw it written on the faces,
That never showed a smile.
I can do my shopping,
And most things by myself.
I sometimes need assistance,
For things on an upper shelf.
I wasn't always like this,
I once stood strong and tall.
I could run and climb mountains,
I could do it all.
Things can happen quickly,
And that's what you should see.
With just a simple twist of fate,
It could be you instead of me.
