As a teenager, I did a lot of hiking in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, and that is where I fell in love with this.

Minnesota is a wee bit more flat! lol.

The closest place to me, for some prolonged hiking, is Lake Maria State Park. But my favorite place to go is Maplewood State Park, because it is located where the hardwood forests meet the prairie, so as you hike around you pass in and out of two different biomes. Plus I like the camping area there.

@DrWatson I have to look that one up! I giggled at “flat.” I live just on the edge to the east where the flat starts giving way to rolling hills on their way to the Mississippi, and having come from the great “nothing but corn and soybeans as far as the eye can see” that is NW Iowa, it never ceases to thrill me that there’s an actual hill in my neighborhood. 😂 Whitewater state park is near here, and I can climb a couple hundred steps and feel like a giant. Bona fide mountains would probably blow my mind. 😂😄

I have been to Whitewater. Because the water is so cold, there are no mosquitoes. Hence it is my wife's favorite State Park!

We did some tent camping there. In early morning, as I unzipped the tent, there would always be deer gathered around, fairly close by.
