The family have always had dogs, but I'm a cat lover too. I've never had one, apart from vicariously when I have a girlfriend with a cat. I'm much more likely to date someone if she comes with an animal or two thrown into the deal.

For about an hour, yeah. I had 2 cats throughout my life, also we kept another 2 when their owners went on vacations. I don't particularly miss them.

I prefer dogs - but cats are (usually) easier to take care of. That said, we currently have two, and have had as many as four at one time.
