I've seen videos where people train cats to ring a bell and they get food. I think it would be cute if you could do the same thing if you left a bell by the door and they ring it when they need in or out

Neither of my cats will go outside. One ran out the door to chase away a feral cat I was feeding and ran off after her across the neighbors yard. I chased after her and couldn't see in the dark so I ran in and grabbed a flash light. When I went back out I heard terrified meowing. She was sitting in the middle of my neighbors driveway just crying away lost in the big world outside. I picked her up and carried her home. To this day she will go on the porch when I let the dog out. Even stand on the top step while the door is open but she will not go down those stairs.
The other cat will join all of us on the porch but has no interest is going out. A window is good enough for her.

@Wedgiegiver My daughter has one on her bedroom door, but I don't think that we will put one in our screen door...Maybe I don't know...It does sound like a good idea.

Aww bless em, no mine don’t actually because they never liked to go outside at all even when I encouraged them as I held them after they were old enough. In summer I had a cat tent outside and put them in there in the garden but they didn’t like that either not even on their own and especially not together so I just accept that they are homely Garfield cats now who love to eat , snuggle and sleep and occasionally the older one hisses because she likes her solitude sometimes lol but that’s understandable… who doesn’t lol 🤭
