I could see a problem with dirty dog, noses, getting all over the edge of the wood as well as drool and slobber, why not just? He is a router and make it an eighth of an inch recessed. We're the lip of the bowl. We're just set down smooth

@dale74 The lip of the bowls need to be sandwiched between to pieces of wood. If it isn't the 3-9 month old pups will pull them out and start chewing on them.
