@Musicman The clip is of a very limited view of a very big lake; it's somewhere on this nearly-separated, ear-shaped peninsula

So you might say it's in the lee of the Keweenaw Peninsula:


By comparison, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sank in waters with no protection at all:
