It depends on WHEN the President steps down as to what happens next. If it's before the Inauguration of the next President, the Vice-President takes over as President. But, if the President simply decides not to run again, he (or she) isn't on the ballot in the next election. President Biden has promised to run in this year's election, though.

President Biden should not step down, but he should terminate his run for the Presidency.

George Clooney is not a politician, but his opinion is significant, because he's one of the people who give big $s to the Democrats.

Clooney co-hosted a major fund raiser for President Biden on June 15. Clooney did not make any comments at the time, but today he spoke up, in the form of an OpEd in the New York Times. To quote him:

I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. During the June 15 event, he was not the Joe “big F-ing deal” Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020.

He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.

It is time for the President to end his Presidential run. I am also basing my opinion here on his interview with ABC News.

Biden is very unlikely to step down as President during this term in office. He may decide not to run for re-election this November. If he does, another Democrat will run for President and that will be determined at the Democratic Convention in Chicago in August.

I would like to say that all those Rep. videos which mock Joe only show little portions of footage looped into making it look more seamless. It's sickening to see the nastiness towards him, but if the Dems wanna win, they might have to let someone else up for the job.
