I don't listen to just American news media though. Yeah Japan itself is releasing emergency oil. From NHK!
This is why I say that closing off EITHER strait (don't forget the Red Sea's strait) has far more consequences to the rest of the world than the USA.

@DeWayfarer I am not laughing. But I do see it as wilful ignorance on the part of Americans and I am far enough away to not be too badly effected. Its like a slow motion train wreck. You cant look away..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Please. I hear the complaints from Australians. I hear the complaints from the Japanese. I hear the complaints from the Canadians.
The whole world is affected by these billionaires. Even the Chinese billionaires are the problem.
China is accepting drones from Iran and selling them in the open world market.
And the IAF can do nothing about it.
Yeah even while the IAF is controlling the Caspian sea! It doesn't matter that Russia can no longer get drones from Iran. It just goes a different route.
The billionaires get their profits no matter what.

@DeWayfarer I couldnt agree with you more. What I am saying is that nations with less fragile economies, more self reliant or with friendly trading partners. (I we can agree that America is none of those things) are better able to weather this storm. Money is now global and mobile, so it will go where it is safe and thats happening already..😷

OK but I'm not quite sure of your point. You could also open the NYT, and a host of legitimate news sources, and read things that are very similar. Lots of it.
Because this is analysis. Opinion. It's not news reporting. Well written, and heavily sourced, but analysis means you're putting your finger on the scale. That's the point.
Not saying this is you but one of my biggest bones to pick with Americans is our lack of ability to consume "media" responsibly. It's doom scrolling and a headline, fed through algorithms, and that's enough. Opinions are formed.Even understanding the difference between opinion and reporting is off the table. People want their feelings fed.
I was on Bluesky for a while. The NYT has a presence there and I would say, in all honesty, 9 of 10 people didn't even read the articles they were screaming about. It was that obvious.
Given the state of the internet and social media right now, soon to be driven by AI, if people don't find the self-respect to LEARN how to consume media, we're nothing but lemmings walking off the cliff. That's why the knee jerk reaction is to "shoot the messenger" when it comes to media. People don't want news. They want feelings.

@swirlie OK. But I didn't say the NYT is predominantly opinion pieces. Because it's not. It's amongst the best hard news reporting in the world.
And why write about Canada? Our neighbor and ally that is in the crosshairs of this administration? It's because it's news that matters and affects the U.S. Most here care what happens to Canada.
Regardless, the NYT maintains a Canadian bureau. Those are Canadians writing about Canada.

It's quite easy to seek the truth and learn about the US.
