@val70 Wake up. The American empire has always been about imperialism and colonialism. They just have been pretending otherwise up till now.
Using economic warfare on others is also nothing new. The only difference is other G7 countries are being subjected to the same treatment the US and NATO have subjected black and brown people to for the last 200ish years.
Reminds me of a quote I came across "Hitler's greatest sin was that he subjected Europe to colonialism."

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow I've been awake for over half a century. One of my family members died in torture by the Germans during World War Two because of his work with British Intelligence. You know the Five Eyes? Them niceties will be gone, and forget any nice holiday in Europe too by the way. Good luck!

@val70 The irony is though Europe was happy to go along with this with the Americans when they were doing it to poor, powerless countries.
Now they feel indignant when it gets turned around on them?

Then the US saves 85 billion per year, and we can redeploy our troops or bring them home. Europe doesn't need the US to protect it from Russia or China. They just sent 35 guys to Greenland to keep the US out. They have it handled. The US has been needing to get out of NATO for a long time, as well as the UN.

Without nato there might just be a world of nations not obsessed with fending off the big bad reds, we might heal from 2 world wars before dropping the big one. And maybe fascism can be stopped in families schools and corporations before it kills anyone else and maybe the BRICS and G7 can stop trying to act like the economy is a football game and maybe the usa will drop some of its phony imperialist arrogance and learn some real national honor and backbone. Also the west might get some humility about what actually requires any military action.Terrible answer I know.
Iwillwait · M
@Ohplease47 Yes, your answer is not without question. Who/Which one of any of these countries will step up defend the areas financially for the military presence required to maintain safety? Answer: None. NATO has been a total drain on American tax payers for the entire time of it's existence, not one nation seems to put up any money or assets.
America should reduce it's efforts and participation overseas and let them figure out for themselves how to survive without us losing more lives or money.

The irony is, NATO pretty much became was it was intended to defend against; political expansionism. Given the political climate in western Europe, they're arguably just as "red" as the USSR/waraw pact before the soviet union fell...

@Iwillwait I dispute that.. On the basis that NATO has for over half a century kept the communist tension and threat far from Americas front door. Look what happens with the Cuba crisis when America felt directly threatened.. America likes to keep conflict in someone else back yard and no be a front line target in the way Ukraine currently is. This is the same rationale that inspired the AUKUS submarine deal. With the rise and expansion of Chinas interests, America was having to patrol the South China sea. A long way from home with no genuine reason to be there. But handing over nuclear powered (not armed) subs to Australia allows them to hand off the expense to a "friend" in the region to actually save them money and keep China under watch..Of course, that deal is falling apart now as America doesnt have the capacity to build the required subs in the time frame..😷

Empire.

Nato stopped being nato when the ussr ended. It kept the same name but it was now to be an aggressive not a defensive entity. And like Medicare Advantage, its not itself anymore, that is... Medicare..or defensive. Remembering our Orwell.

Guess it depends on the service agreement, but this would be huge leverage for Europe. I do wonder if Europe has the capacity to exercise power anymore.

Trump 🤣
We would have Putin instead.🥵
Xi will be on holiday in his Philippines . 😈
About to swallow up Australia.
Spheres of influence, I think Trump calls it. Or is it 1984.

are not meant solely to “protect” Europe
I'm guessing you failed cold war history in school... 🤔
Or did you think it was just coincidence that most of the blue dots are in western Germany, and the green dots are former warsaw pact country bases...
val70 · 51-55
@wildbill83 You mean that it's not true that we actually had American bases here that made better development of vast areas impossible? Before you actually start up, try to think that I could have been in the army during the First Iraq War and my father did 35 years playing tin soldier because in your book we can't and weren't defending ourselves
