Various regional fights between different societies around the Eastern Mediterranean over many centuries, yes, but there were no "world superpowers" around to become involved.

I am not splitting hairs. None of those were world powers, a concept that arose only after WW2 with the USSR, USA and now China able to exert influence far more internationally than even the Romans, Spanish and British Empires managed.
