Yes indeed.

The oldest known fossil of the genus Homo is the 'Ledi jaw' from Ethiopia (Africa), which is approximately 2.75 to 2.80 million years old. This fossil shows characteristics that link it to both earlier ancestors and later species of Homo, such as Homo habilis.

I wonder why they ever left? Perhaps they went on a camping weekend and never returned. ;)
