50% oppose and 39% support based on the poll that you linked. Another one cited in the article shows 49% disapproval of immigration, which is far worse that normal for Republicans on this issue. Based on the data that you shared, American either do oppose it or at best, are split. The only conclusion that can not be drawn from that is the one you posted in your title.
