...numerical 50% (number of households?)
not money 50%
not money 50%
Kypro · 46-50, M
@SomeMichGuy Yes money.
ElwoodBlues · M
@SomeMichGuy 10% of the population holds approximately 67% of the total wealth in the United States. The bottom 50% hold about 2.5% of total wealth.
SomeMichGuy · M
@ElwoodBlues That makes sense with the way those figures were going.

They dont have that in cash or even in houses, its mostly stocks. If people stop using Metas products (we are allowed to you know), Zucks wealth evaporates almost overnight. (I'd far rather it happened to Sam Altman mind you)

@Lhayezee
Is there a remotely credible scenario where this can happen? And if people stop buying Tesla cars, musk's net worth would go negative, because he's using his Tesla shares to keep all his losing companies afloat.
People are not going to stop using Facebook. Or even slow their use. Unfortunately.

Its numbers. Not liquid wealth, it's based on how well the stock market is and the share prices.
It can disappear in a heartbeat if things turn.

Bill Gates has donated over $100 billion to philanthropic causes; principally the Gates Foundation. Thus he has given away more than the combined net worth of the bottom 50%.

@ElwoodBlues And Warren Buffett gives his charitable donations direct to the Gates Foundation, because as he sees it, they do the best work, why reinvent the wheel. Buffett is a practical man.

@trollslayer says
:: UPDATE ::
Dec 4, 2015 — Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan say they will give away 99% of their Facebook shares to good causes over the course of their lifetimes via the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI)
i don’t ever see that happening with the three men pictured
Maybe not. But Zuckerberg is only about 41. Gates started his foundation at age 44 and by age 50 (2006) had contributed $36 to $39 billion to it. There's time for Zuck to get concerned about his legacy and give philanthropy a fling.:: UPDATE ::

@ElwoodBlues Note that Gates' generosity was prompted by his (2nd?) wife...and Zuckerberg, the nerd voyeur with an ego to rival DJT, seems to also have required feminine intervention to become "charitably-minded"...

Unsustainable.
GuidanceCounselor · 56-60, M
So what
Kypro · 46-50, M
@GuidanceCounselor so 3-4 people can purchase elections and control what happens to the other 90%. The constitution requires equal representation not meaningless elections. Thats what Russia has had for 30 years.

You sound surprised. It is the inevitable result of the US economic trajectory..😷
Kypro · 46-50, M
@whowasthatmaskedman I’m not surprised it’s been the trend in this century. Many don’t realize it I fear.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Kypro When you look at the numbers its bleeding obvious. Money doesnt trickle down. It trickle up. Thats just a fact..😷

Two more people: Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer (Microsoft) and you can add $250B to the top 5 Americans.

Americans killed socialism and don't deserve wealth unless they took it away from someone!
They don't deserve socialism. Let go!!!
