What is happening by Israeli government order is utterly indefensible but I have a gnawing suspicion that HAMAS orchestrated its atrocity - the raid on a festival- that was the flash-point, to provke a violent attack on their own land. Then use that to blame Isreal as its justification for its own (Hamas') actions.

If so I think that Hamas had not considered just how brutal the Israelis would be - perhaps they could not have imagined they being as nasty as its own thugs who attacked the festival.

Isreal is not some ancient country marked by defined borders. It was carved out of long-extant Palestine in the 1940s by the UN on an idea first mooted by the British politician, Lord Balfour, in 1917; and it caused enough trouble then. Since that time the more hard-line Israeli nationalists have been acting as if the Palestinians have no right to their own home, with the so-called "settlers" being really invaders. Then they and their supporters wonder why some Palestinians attack them.

No-one deserves Hamas, least of all the Palestinians whose own government has been sidelined by the insurgents.

There will not be peace until both fighting sides recognise they are bad as each other. Hamas must stop trying to destroy Israel. The Israelis must stop trying to take over the rest of Palestine. The Palestinians must be allowed their own nation with their own government, and only then will anyone have much chance of sidelining the Hamas barbarians in turn.

IDF or Hamas - there is little to choose between them for ruthlessness and barbarity.

Netanyahu or whoever leads Hamas - little to choose between these small-minded men for utter stupidity as well as cruelty and cowardice.

@Diotrephes There were indeed many Jews who managed to escape the Nazi persecution while remaining in Germany, but only with great difficulty and danger. If they were recruited to the German forces it was not to save their lives but to help Hitler's aims.

Had Hitler won WW2, how many of those favoured few - only 150 000 out of some millions - would have been left to live out their normal lives? Or would they have been rounded up and killed in turn, once they'd served their purpose?

@Diotrephes America didn't win WW2 single handily.

Are The Gutless Palestinian HAMAS still
Hiding in GAZA?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Dino11 They are not "gutless" although their actions are cowardly.

Terrorist organisations are not formal military units even if some pretend to be, but are civilians living as civilians in normal ways when not engaged in their violent activities. That is their camouflage.

That is why it is so hard to find them - but looking for them does not excuse indiscriminate, blanket military action against all civilians.

@ArishMell Their camouflaging with civilians is what is the cause of the indiscriminate killing of innocent people by the IDF. They cant be singled out.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@wrule That is the problem but given the Israeli's intelligence abilities we might expect a better approach than just indiscriminate shooting and bombing.

I also wonder if the IFD troops are poorly trained and led by officers who are no better.
