That was a thoughtful post. Thanks for that. My thinking has always been the same. It's not the system of government. It's who is put in to government roles. At least according to the 50 to 60 percent of Americans who actually freaking vote. And right now there's two sides of the aisle and one side, with all hyperbole aside, is trying to weaken Democracy and our institutions at the very core. And it's obvious. But they still have support. That says something.

What I think are the two biggest drivers, by far, that keeps us moving forward in a positive way are wealth disparity and the internet. Neither of those were on the table 60 years ago.

We have the capacity to curtail wealth disparity. We've done it before and most everyone prospered. But the internet, which is beginning to collide with AI, is a very different animal. I don't believe we're capable as a species to handle it appropriately yet. And I'm not sure if we ever will be. At least until it fuels some type of mass destruction of humanity or societies. Maybe we'll wake up then. Not so sure though.

@Ynotisay thank you

The culture of African Americans reflected a willingness to accept a resolve to maintain a certain heritage in contrast to the European immigrants that dominated the American landscape ever since the 17th century. In doing so they have managed to blend in and assimilate with other cultures without losing their own identity. Now what we are seeing is an almost complete collapse of civility and a deterioration of moral constraints within our society.

Where did we blend in and assimilate ? Where was that allowed ? Legal segregation ended during my lifetime.
