It turns out these guys belong to my neighbor. They recently acquired them along with a couple of ducks. They apparently have free reign so I'll probably be seeing them again.

@Gibbon free reign, free food... 😉

HumanEarth · F
Skunks and minks got at ours, were down to 4 hens
HumanEarth · F
domesticated chickens love to follow people around and be near people for food reasons
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@HumanEarth he went straight for the leaves by the property border brush line and obviously found something to eat as all the others joined him. I've seen lots of roosters and this guy really is big
HumanEarth · F
Chickens eat almost anything, even mice, but will not eat any citrus
Adrift · 61-69, F
The first one looks like it could be a rooster.
If you walk out there and swing the bottom of your foot at him in a challenging way, you might be able to find out for sure.
If they run away, their hens.
If you run, its a rooster.

@Adrift well they've wondered off to their next adventure
the roosters look like Allen Round Heads fighting roosters,
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@jackrabbit10 I don't have a clue where these guys came from. Also he wasn't the only rooster
@Gibbon if they were raised up together that is why they don't fight, should have very long spurs,
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@jackrabbit10 makes sense. The one gray with red comb was the most attractive but he's hard to see

The are perfect for cleaning up bugs in the yard.

Our Cowboy's wife built a hen house out of PVC pipe and heavy plastic and tape. Its and A frame about 7'tall with some shelves for nest boxes. On the outside is a wire mesh dome made for coving plants (to keep birds away) and she put some cinder bock pieces on its bottom and attached them with zip ties...She moves it once a day and the chickens pick the ground clean of bugs.

Someone's hen house needs a new lock!

@TexChik my neighbor's recently got them and a few ducks. They have a pen but I'm now seeing them often running free in their yard. They can come this way if they want they are not people shy
TexChik · F
@Gibbon I know what time you are getting up in the morning! Whenever the rooster says so!
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@TexChik my landlady who lives in the back of the lot has had roosters and chickens for ever. Fortunately I wear hearing aids which are out in the morning
