One of his best and most famous songs.

One of my favourite Canadian artists. Everything he sang is golden.

I think , as Canadians, Gordon Lightfoot is in our blood. But I did not know he is from Orillia. Orillia is a nice place.

@Jenny1234 Interesting enough, I happened to know that Gordon was from Orillia before I even knew any of his music. Sound weird?? Well, it's because I lived with two guys from Orillia who knew him personally and who introduced me to his music. The first one being "The Old Man Came home from the Forest".
I'm as big a Lightfoot fan as they come (among GenX) and this does capture the vibe of how Gord approach the subject matter of Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald but I think some of these facts are Internet legend. Gord didn't meet the families until after the song was released. He also didn't write them any cheques.

I did a fact check and you are correct.

On a side note I was 7 years old ,the summer before it sank, I saw it go through the Sault Ste Marie Locks.
I still remember the announcer's voice through the speakers "And now the pride of the fleet the Edmund Fitzgerald"
@Justmeraeagain chilling....
Momentous as well
