This is a really great question. I'll go for whole genres rather than individual songs. So like... 90s rock like Tragically Hip or Pearl Jam plays well with a lot of crowds. In a more country crowd I'll play alt-country like Steve Earle or Slim Cessna. If I really have no clue I'll just put together a list of top 40 songs I've liked from the past few decades. There's not a TON but there's enough for an evening.

literally no fucking clue, this question just made me laugh, because every time i've been to a barbeque i've heard people say "Omfg WHAT is this music they're playing?" Don't think i'd have a barbeque, i don't know anyone where i live and i barely eat.

I'd maybe try some weird 90s megamix shit...i'd say i would break out the decks but i have the feeling that's too much work if they hate the tunes anyway
