@Stereoguy I liked Topeka pretty well as a child. We weren’t in a good situation as children though living with my father. That lake in the south of Topeka, Shawnee lake, was a good memory. Have seen recent photos and it’s gotten prettier with the landscaping. We lived walking distance to the zoo, a rose garden, a park and a swimming pool so me and my sisters would walk there in the warmer months and spend an afternoon.

@Stereoguy had to live in the moment and enjoy what I could. Let’s say that the best times were when we weren’t inside of the house and out in public. He wouldn’t act the same in public in front of strangers the way he did at home.

@Stereoguy yeah….at least most of the time we could enjoy ourselves in public. When we lived in a village in Missouri though he’d have us get dressed up and tell us we were going to town to go shopping for the afternoon and the first bar he saw he would pull up to it and that’s where we stayed till after dark…those small bar owners didn’t care if we were minors even though it was against the law to take children into bars watching him drink beer after beer. He couldn’t get by with that in Topeka, thank God.
