This is a prime example of what they mean by it being better to be alone than to be with bad company.

It seems like a complicated situation but I can only suggest you make precautions to protect yourself. Do things like hide your valuables and go somewhere quiet like a library with a laptop, if you can.

Just don't let the right moment become a never the right moment. I know it's hard/complicated and not easy, but you have to make that right moment happen.
