When people say “love don’t cost a thing,” they usually mean real love isn’t supposed to require you to lose yourself, your dignity, or your well-being. It shouldn’t demand you pay for it with your peace, your health, or your identity. But I'm talking about something deeper and very real.
Love does cost something. It costs:
vulnerability (letting someone see your heart)
time and emotional energy
forgiveness when it’s hard
staying when it would be easier to walk away
sometimes grieving when it doesn’t work out
And yes… sometimes it costs a lot when it’s given to the wrong person or in the wrong season.
The difference is this:
Healthy love costs effort, patience, and growth
Unhealthy love costs you yourself
It costs some their health
That’s where the line is.

Yet don't expect to receive love automatically.
Reminds me of the chorus from a different Beatles song: Eleanor Rigby.
Love is not an automatic, self opening, door where people meet.

All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?

@DeWayfarer Are you sure? Love is our true essence. I think the thing that keeps it from being automatic, is the resistance to it we've taken on to protect ourselves against painful consequences when we get hurt by it.
So yes, don't expect to receive love automatically. There are so many hurt people.

@PhoenixPhail I am adamant on this.
Why? Because...Life is change!
Nor do absolutes exist. Absolutes are the shadows of reality. You can approach, yet never touch an absolute. Just like a shadow.
Try to touch the same piece of water twice! You can't! Once it's gone it's gone.
Once again... Life is change.
No change is nothingness or void. Not even a thought. A thought implies time. And therefore necessitates change.
