Well done you, for getting in to recovery, and for having the capacity for introspection, and for the self-awareness you have. You really sound like you’re getting a handle on things and you strike me as a decent person who has learned from your past and quite rightly wants to move on and get "back out there" when the time is right. I hope you meet someone nice that you can build a life with, and I wish you all the best for the future :)

Your story hit home with me because I've been through my own struggles, including being separated from my two children for a time, and I'm grateful to say I fought my way back and now have them with me full time. You're absolutely right that your past has shaped you but it doesn't define who you are, and the strength it takes to keep getting back up says far more about your character than your worst days ever could. I wish you nothing but the best on your recovery and hope you find the kind of love, peace, and fresh start you're working so hard to build.
