Honestly? Usually when I'm on the verge of sleep. But dumb me rarely writes them down and then I forget.
Believe it or not......
I have always done my best thinking and brainstorming while taking a shower.
As far as coming up with an idea for a business.... In my case I saw a need within my hobby for a certain line of products and it just kind of took off. At first, I made them for fun and gave them away and then was encouraged by my "hobby friends" to sell them. 25 years later ... I'm still making them and selling them (primarily through the internet).
I believe one of the keys to my success has been not only finding the niche to exploit but also controlling all aspects of the product.... IE: manufacturing, packaging and labeling, and finally the selling. It is a lot of work and many hats to wear, but I have made it my full-time job. Mind you, I did have another job while I was initially working my business and once it took off, I left the work-a-day corporate World to pursue my business full-time.
For those of you that think "it must be great to own a business and only have to work half days".... just pick out the 12 hours you want to work.
Best thing about self-employment and marketing through the internet.... the flexibility. The ability to "break away" when you want. Allows me to meet my spouse for lunch near her work or go see that movie I want to watch.
