Pretty much says it all about the nature of public discourse in today's world. You should absolutely be able to say things that people don't like and not be at risk of being shot for it. There is never any justification for that. I don't really care if the speaker is right or left or whether they are antagonistic or not. Life means having to hear things that you don't like and as long as someone is operating within the law then you have the options of either sucking it up or not listening. There should be zero tolerance for violence against lawful speech in a democracy.

Update: Apparently he was shot in the neck but is now stable. Take it with a grain of salt, this hasn’t been confirmed officially.
