Because being funny is their self defense

Emotional connection is what humans crave when communicating with each other.

Being funny is one of the ways in which that problem can be solved. Love is another.

because people are here to have fun and distract themselves...if you want a serious answer you wouldn't ask here would you?

I think you're being overzealous by including everyone in this .

Well to be honest, this aint the place where you should expect all serious answers' mainly because -
1. Nobody like a 'know-it-all'
2. All work and no play makes Jack a dul boy.
3. People log on to here to get away from daily crap.
4. Even if your humor sucks, this is the only place where others judging you will not affect your entire life.

So like some users previously mentioned, its better to try and bring smile to someone's face.

Bwaaaaah I think they just want to make someones' day. I kinda like that though, but when i'm looking for serious answers then.. I don't like it.

Because life is too short. Fill it with everything you can and that means humor when you can find it. Everyone loves to laugh and make others laugh. It's part of connecting which is why we are here isn't it?
