it may be possible but it is not an easy thing to do. most of the time it happens when friends have a falling out and it makes you feel like you need to take sides.

It's nearly impossible, especially when the person in question has attacked or hurt me in the past. It's very hurtful for a friend to ignore that and be chummy with such a person.

If they are mature they can be friends with both without exposing secrets. I have one good friend that way, I admit we aren't as close as we used to be though.
