If Putin was going to interfere in the next US election, is it possible he'd actually promote a Democrat leader instead?

If the aim is to sow discontent and division, he'd probably want a lot of aggrieved Trump voters.

There's a few candidates on the Democratic side who want to shake up the US economy significantly to address inequality. That can also lead to the kind of disruption Putin might want to see

Putin had a unique opportunity with Trump, a real estate developer who owed money to Russian banks he has direct influence over, to launder tens of billions or dirty Russian money from drugs and other criminal activities globally. The number of times Russians and Russian connected people like Manafort keep coming up is the clue. But the turnover of Trump built property from one Russian "businessman" to another and another is staggering. Each transfer legitimising more cash and kickbacks going to the Putin retirement fund for services rendered. "Its all about the Benjamins Baby!"
