Unlearn...
As I stated, most replies indicate a lack of understanding of the word.

First of all, I bet a lot of people know the meaning. A strength, for sure. Life is about connections, and what better way to relate to someone than through a common bond such as this?

Depends on how emotionally intelligent a person is.

A person with low EQ can easily be overwhelmed by feelings evoked from strong empathic orientation.

Net net... if you’re empathetic, spend some time to understand why you feel what you feel. You’ll save yourself unecessary pain and make yourself a more powerful person.

Definitely a strength
it could be good for survival if you help someone during a hard time they will help you back. it can also be a detriment if it is overused, then you loose your logical thinking if you only think while being influenced with an emotion.
Depends on the person. Some one with nerves, empathy is a strength. Otherwise, they get hurt more than they effect more
both. Depend on what kind of people you deal with

It's a weakness if you let people's feelings overwhelm you.

It’s a weakness if you expect something in return
A curse generally as we now take on the pain of others besides our own.

But in theory, a strength. Just not practicality.
