Oh I'd definitely visit. It looks truly breathtaking. But I wouldn't want to live there because of the climate.

Am impressed with the number of green houses they have to grow food, they power them with geothermal which is really a cheap source of energy there. The problem there is that they have to import a whole lot of stuff and those things are very expensive. They don't really welcome immigrants and that's probably one reason it's such a peaceful place...everything basically stays the same. And have to credit them for prosecuting the crooked bankers and imprisoning them.

Well, I'm a northern girl anyway ... not quite that far north, but it wouldn't bother me.

Well, that depends on your criteria. Certainly if we use population as our criteria, then China reigns supreme as the greatest nation in the world. If we use climate as our criteria then I would argue that one of those little island nations in the Caribbean is tops. If our criteria is economic might, then the answer is obviously the USA.

But if our criteria is contributing to the development of western civilization and pluralistic democracy (a pretty good thing in my not-so-humble opinion), then we would have to pick some nation like Greece or early Rome or France or the UK or the USA.
All nations have flaws. All of them.

Ahh Bij! That speaks directly to my answer below. This question doesn't state the criteria upon which we are to make our decision. If the criteria is population, then certainly China is the greatest country on Earth! If the criteria is size of economy, then certainly the USA is the greatest country on the Earth.

BUT, (and this is what I love about you) if the criteria is social justice, then there is much about our country that leaves us wanting.
I wish "social justice" wasn't such an epithet nowadays. I admit, I don't judge a country's 'greatness' by size or wealth, but whether or not people can be happy, content and safe there. And I honestly don't know about other places besides what I've seen when I've visited and what the people have told me. Our country, imo, is in better shape then places with Sharia law or constant government coups, tribal infighting and disease. But it's not better than many other so-called "1st world" countries that invest in healthcare and education for their citizens and don't have constant problems with gun violence.

I think we're in agreement with everything you just said. :-)

The Mayan. Advanced culture and technology. Then they up and disappear. No war. Just all ascended to the sky to live a happier existence.

None are. But if I must vote: Switzerland. Clean air, pristine alps, good economy, politically neutral, the only true democracy in the word and awesome cheese!

Don't forget the chocolate. And not a bad list of criteria either. I've been to Switzerland twice now and I LOVE it there. :)
