I do the same thing. The worst are the days where I just don't have it in me to pretend to be okay and everyone asks what's wrong but no one really cares. They're just being polite.

I really don't understand why we do that as a society. Ask someone how they are as a greeting and not because we genuinely care. Why is "happy, fine, okay, alright" the default? I don't get that.
